About the role

Engineers Mate® are seeking an experienced and proactive On-Site MRO Maintenance Stores Manager to lead the daily operation, optimisation, and continuous improvement of an engineering maintenance stores environment at a customer manufacturing site in South Wales.

This hands-on role requires strong leadership, inventory management expertise, and the ability to build effective relationships across engineering, procurement, operations, and suppliers. You will ensure critical MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) parts and consumables are available when needed, while improving stock accuracy, cost control, efficiency, and service performance.

A key aspect of the role is the implementation and ongoing optimisation of a Barcode Inventory Management System to improve traceability, replenishment efficiency, accountability, and reporting accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Stores & Inventory Management
  • Manage the daily operation of the on-site MRO stores
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards using 5S principles
  • Ensure stock accuracy through cycle counts, PI checks, and audits
  • Manage replenishment to balance availability and stock levels
  • Rationalise stock, reduce obsolete items, and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and reporting
  • Manage VMI, consignment, and supplier-managed stock where applicable
  • Barcode System Management
  • Lead implementation and development of the barcode inventory system
  • Develop barcode processes for receiving, issuing, replenishment, and traceability
  • Ensure products and locations are correctly labelled and maintained
  • Train staff on barcode and inventory procedures
  • Use system data to improve stock visibility, reporting, and efficiency
  • Customer & Operational Support
  • Build strong relationships with engineering, procurement, and operations teams
  • Deliver agreed KPIs and service levels
  • Act as the main contact for stores and inventory activities
  • Attend operational meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide responsive support to minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency
  • Purchasing & Supply Chain
  • Manage purchasing of MRO parts and consumables within budget
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and performance
  • Support sourcing of emergency and non-stock items
  • Identify cost reductions through negotiation, standardisation, and stock optimisation

Engineering Support

  • Work with maintenance teams to support critical spares planning and shutdown activities.
  • Assist with obsolescence management and replacement strategies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve reliability and product performance.
  • Promote continuous improvement across the stores function.

Skills & experience

  • Experience in MRO stores, inventory, supply chain, or engineering stores within manufacturing or industrial environments
  • Strong knowledge of stock control, purchasing, and inventory systems
  • Experience with barcode inventory systems and scanning technology
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver process improvements and cost savings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP/inventory systems
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of 5S, lean, and continuous improvement principles is desirable
